Settle Sessions encourage young poets
Following the success of their inaugural competitions in 2016,
Settle Sessions are presenting their national competition for this year,
with a special ‘Emerging Poet’ prize as well for people aged 18-21 years old.
The Judge this year is Kim Moore, a youthful poet herself,
who is fast building an admirable reputation for her work.
Her first full length collection The Art of Falling was published by Seren in April 2015.
She won a New Writing North Award in 2014, an Eric Gregory Award in 2011
and the Geoffrey Dearmer Prize in 2012.
Her first pamphlet If We Could Speak Like Wolves was a winner in The Poetry Business Pamphlet Competition, judged by Carol Ann Duffy.
It was chosen as an Independent Book of the Year in 2012
and shortlisted for the Michael Marks Pamphlet Award
and for the Lakeland Book of the Year Award.
First prize is £150, second £100 and third £75. The Emerging Poet prize is £50.
Entry is £4 for one poem, £10 for three.
The deadline is July 31st 2017.
The winners will be invited to read their poems at our special prize winners’ evening
on Friday 29th September in Settle.
